The Big Bend Enamelware MugNo. 4 St. James
In camp or at home, wake up to a view of the breathtaking Chisos Mountains with your Big Bend Enamelware Mug by No. 4 St. James.
Artist and native Texan Jackson Robinson illustrated the mug’s inspiring wrap-around scene, a hand-drawn silhouette of one of the most peaceful mountain ranges in the continental United States. Located entirely within Big Bend National Park in West Texas, the Chisos Mountains are a lush oasis amid the dramatic Chihuahuan desert, so isolated that they’re one of only a few places in the world certified for dark sky star-gazing.
The brown painted accents on the mug’s rim and handle are hand-dipped; inside, a sky blue finish recalls the far reaching skies of West Texas.
Inspiration continues at the bottom of the mug, with the message to Breathe the vastness into your soul. This was derived from a quote by hotel magnate Conrad Hilton. Though he was not a native Texan, Hilton opened his first hotel here in 1919. His experience with the ambition of Texans led him to observe the following about the Lone Star State:
There’s a vastness here, and I believe that the people who are born here breathe that vastness into their soul. They dream big dreams and think big thoughts, because there is nothing to hem them in.
We love this quote, and we love that it’s spawned the perfect motivation to start your day right: breathe the vastness into your soul: dream big, think big thoughts, refuse to be hemmed in.
The Big Bend Enamelware Mug is made for No. 4 St. James in Europe by the world’s leading enamelware artisans. Enamelware is a sturdy, handsomely finished material that results from a complex process of firing enamel (a glass-like coating) over sheet metal. The result is a non-toxic product that resists rusting, acidity, and UV rays (the color will last for years!), is easy to clean, and is lightweight—perfect for camping and travel.
The capacity of the Big Bend Enamelware Mug is approximately 12 oz. Choose a single mug, or set of two. Your mugs will ship to you from our Texas Showroom in Austin, Texas, housed in a brown craft box and packed with raw Texas cotton.
